Needle roller bearings are a bearing that
is classified as either radial or thrust depending on the direction of the load
being supported. They are used to reduce friction of a rotating
surface.
Needle roller bearings are separable radial
bearings with very low sectional heights that feature high load carrying
capability. Needle roller bearings use long, slim rollers, the so -called
"bearing needles" as rolling elements. Due to the possibility of
mounting inner and outer rings of needle roller bearings separately, mounting
becomes much simpler, even under the conditions of mass production. The
comparatively thin - walled needle roller bearing rings are usually mounted
with tight fits.
Needle bearings have a large surface area
that is in contact with the bearing outer surfaces compared to ball
bearings. Additionally there is less added clearance so they are much more
compact.
Needle roller bearings include bearings
whose rollers slightly exceed the size range of needle rollers as stipulated by
ISO. Needle roller bearings include drawn cup and solid radial bearings, as
well as application-specific cam followers, and roller followers. Thrust
bearings include thrust needle bearings.
Needle bearings feature a smaller
cross-section, higher load-carrying capacity, greater rigidity, and lower
inertia forces that facilitate size and weight reductions in machinery. They’re
designed to withstand oscillation, perform under severe conditions, and
interchange with sliding bearings.
Needle roller and cage assemblies are
offered in single or double row, solid or split cage, metric and inch sizes; as
well as in connecting rod bearings for special applications.
Single and double row bearings are
available with or without ribs, and with or without inner rings.
Thrust bearings are offered in single row
roller and cage assemblies.
Needle roller bearings can be found in the following applications:
1 Gear pumps
2 Mud pumps
3 Oil field pumping jacks
